FUNDS RAISED TO ASSIST UN WOMEN
On March 4, I had the pleasure of hosting my first International Women’s Day event, held at the Moonee Ponds Bowls Club.
It was great to have Judy Maddigan, former Member for Essendon and the first female Speaker of the Victorian Parliament, as guest speaker.
The event was attended by women and men representing many sectors of the community.
The aim of the event was to raise funds for UN Women National Committee Australia, to help create a brighter future for women and girls.
UN Women is the United Nations entity responsible for promoting women’s empowerment and gender equity.
Although the rights and equity of women have come a long way, there is still much work to be done and in particular when it comes to the education of young women in under developed countries.
I am pleased to advise that the profits from the event, $1248.50, has been sent to UN Women today.
I am looking forward to hosting the event again next year and raising further funds to assist in the advancement of women.
