My name is Danny Pearson and I’m the Labor Member for the State Seat of Essendon.
My wife and I live in Ascot Vale where we are raising our five children, four of whom attend our local primary school and kindergarten.
My interest in politics was inspired by my family. My grandmother’s family lost everything in the Great Depression and she endured a life of hardship. For my grandmother, the Australian Labor Party was the only institution that truly protected working people.
I became involved in politics because I believe that the Government can profoundly improve the lives of its citizens. In 1996 I started working as a researcher for the Labor Party, I then went on to become a senior advisor to Premier Steve Bracks. Before I was elected, I worked in and later established a small consultancy business in Melbourne. Devising policies that enable the community to achieve its potential is what inspires me.
The State Seat of Essendon is a wonderful part of Melbourne and it is a great honour to represent this electorate.
Nevertheless, we have a community under pressure from over-development and a lack of spending on appropriate infrastructure, including improving public transport in our community. To rectify this, the Andrews’ Labor Government will not build the East-West link. Instead we will remove the Buckley Street Level Crossing, we will start work on the Melbourne Metro Tunnel and we will prevent the overdevelopment of the Moonee Valley Racing Club.
I am also concerned about the rising cost of living, improving the way our hospitals are managed as well as ensuring our children receive the best possible education. As a former President of the Early Learning Association Australia, I know that children need appropriate stimulation to develop and excel. This is why I am a strong supporter of education for everyone, not just a lucky few. To this end, I am pleased that one of the Andrews Government’s early actions was the restoration of the Strathmore Secondary College school zone. I will also continue to work to obtain the funds needed to rebuild Strathmore Primary School.
It is my promise to you that helping my constituents is my first priority. Should you have any issues or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact my office on (03) 9370 7777 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Together we can build a better community.
