Delivering for Essendon

Better Local Public Transport

As a Member of the Andrews Government, improving our public transport infrastructure has been a state-wide priority. I’ve worked hard to ensure that the Essendon electorate receives our fair share of investment. The Melbourne Metro tunnel will help enable more frequent services along the Craigieburn Line, with some dedicated services originating from Essendon Station. Because they’ll be originating at Essendon Station, they’ll be arriving at stations with more space for passengers to board – making your morning and evening commutes that much easier. The level crossing removal at Buckley Street has made our public transport system safer, less disruptive, and faster for all road users. Additional services and improved timetables for the 460, 462, 476, 503 and the 505 bus lines have made it easier than ever to get around the electorate. I’m proud of what we have already achieved and will strive to further improve public transport in the area.

Improving Public Housing

Public housing is an essential component of creating a liveable city for all members of the community. I’m proud to be supporting recent developments that will both increase the number of public housing units while also improving the quality of housing available. Recent renewal efforts at the Flemington Estate will help make our housing more accessible and hospitable to residents. The 1960’s “walk-ups,” which were inaccessible to those with mobility issues, are being replaced with a cost-minimising blend of public and private housing. The original 198 dwellings in the Flemington Estate will be replaced with at least 218 new public housing homes. Further investment into public housing renewal is planned for the Ascot Vale Estate, which will include new homes and a new facility for the Wingate Avenue Community Centre. I’m grateful for the opportunity to be a part of these ongoing efforts and look forward to seeing these developments rolled out successfully.

Making Solar Panels Cheaper

We all share a responsibility to look after our environment and to support our rapidly growing renewable energy industry. That’s why we’ve rolled out solar panels across the state, with our rebate scheme giving up to $2,225 to eligible families. Effectively, this works out to be 50% off your average 4kW solar panel system. Additionally, through our implementation of the Power Saving Bonus, we’ve given $50 to over 5,600 households in the Essendon electorate in order to encourage downward pressure on electricity prices. I’m proud to be working towards making Victoria a more renewable friendly place to live.

Taking Care of Our Waterways

The Moonee Ponds Creek and the Maribyrnong River are the heart and soul of the Essendon electorate. In my time in Parliament, I have worked hard to protect their natural beauty and the health of their ecosystems. In particular, both of the waterways are included as part of the broader Waterways of the West plan, a $5.1 million investment to improve and protect Melbourne’s iconic waterways. I have also worked to deliver an $815,000 three-year project that will improve access for recreational anglers and increase the native fish population in the Maribyrnong River. The project is a terrific partnership between anglers, local councils, and the State Government as part of the Target One Million plan. Our rivers are important to me, and I will always fight to help them thrive.

Growing Mount Alexander College

I am very proud to have been heavily involved in the transformation and growth of Mount Alexander College. We delivered to Mount Alexander College nearly half a million dollars in funding for renovations, including the construction of new outdoors learning facilities. This initiative is an important part of breaking the cycle of disadvantage by creating quality public schools in the Essendon electorate. I am determined to make Mount Alexander College one of the premier schools of the inner North-West. This investment will help make this dream become a reality, and I look forward to further advocating on behalf of MAC in Parliament and in our community.
